50 | Snowmobile VERMONT 50 | Snowmobile VERMONT Club News Ludlow Side Hill Cronchers Our safety course and our holiday meeting were held on Dec. 9. Congratulations to all of our new graduates! The holiday party is always a good time. Thanks to Tim and Michelle for hosting once again! Thanks to all who participated and/or made both of these events happen. We held a few trail work days this autumn and we got a ton of work done. Thank you, volunteers, for the amazing level of help. We had a tall order this year rebuilding six bridges on Okemo in a remote location. We did a minor trail reroute off of Route 100 near the Recycling Center. Thank you, landowners, for giving us permission to continue riding through your property! Along with the big projects, we have completed the usual debrushing and clean up, signage, prepping the Warming Hut and getting the groomer ready. Unfortunately, the East Lake Road trail continues to be closed as of mid-November. TMA forms to existing members were mailed at the end of October. If you didn’t get one or need a new copy, you can get a form from our website and mail them in. We also truly appreciate the following Ludlow locations for helping us to sell TMAs: Benson’s Chevrolet, Ludlow Insurance, The Ludlow Country Store, Timber Inn Motel and The Tyson Store. Pop by one of those locations and they can help you out. Remember the Warming Hut if you’re cold on the trails. It’s on North Hill at the intersection of VAST Corridor 127A and 127B (WR-82) and is stocked with free hot cocoa and has a woodstove. Our website and our Facebook page will let you know if any events are being planned there. We would like to organize a Safety Check Day early in the season, if possible. The website is also good for checking out the webcam at the Hut and trail conditions. As always, thank you, landowners, businesses and members for sticking with us and for supporting the club. Without you, we wouldn’t have anything. Now let’s get this season started! Happy holidays! Tina Berge, Public Information Officer www.sidehillcronchers.com Like us on Facebook Weathersfield Pathfinders Hope that everyone had an awesome summer and fall. After taking the summer off to rest from last year’s hard work keeping the trails in great shape for everyone to enjoy Several young volunteers helped out on the Ludlow Side Hill Snow Cronchers’bridge projects. Two of them helped wrap up the project by delivering hay. we are back to work. Our crew of hardworking volunteers have been working with local landowners to reroute a large section of trail 506. We had two property sales and both properties had houses built on them, which in turn meant we needed to find away around. After countless hours of looking at tax maps, talking to landowners, and attending a select board meeting we got all of the permissions needed to make it happen!!! By the end of November our volunteers plan to have the new section of trail open for the winter riding season. Hope to have many new pictures for the next issue of the magazine to show off all our hard work!!! Trailmaster Kevin Heiden has been heading groomer repairs to get our Tucker and drag ready for the upcoming winter season. New tracks have been ordered and will be here soon, so we can install them and cross that task off our list. We are in the process of replacing our tired and worn-out winch. Groomer operator Nelson Rickert has macgyvered it numerous times to get up some of our icy spots to avoid getting stuck, so our club members voted to replace it to relieve some of the headache. The Tucker is also scheduled to have a complete fluid change and its pre- season greasing so it can be ready for service for when the snow starts flying. We plan on doing our annual poker run again this year. The date is going to be Saturday, Feb. 10 with sign up being from 9–10:30 a.m. Concluding the poker run we will hold a barbecue that is by donation only. We will also have a 50/50 raffle as well as door prizes from local businesses. Stay tuned to our Facebook page for more details as the date gets closer. We hope to see everyone out on the trails this winter! We plan on having some of the best maintained trails in the area!! So do those snow dances and dont forget to thank the landowners who make all of this great riding possible!
