4 | Snowmobile VERMONT 4 | Snowmobile VERMONT A message from VAST Vice President Jeff Fay A common thread that one will find in this issue as they read about Dave Page is the impact he had on the sport and the people within the sport, not only locally, but statewide and beyond. Dave was a guy that would listen to what you had to say, listen to ideas that you had, then proceed to explain the errors in your thought process. A thoughtful discussion would ensue, sometimes quite lengthy, where you would defend, he would counter and, in the end, both parties would agree to disagree and would amicably part ways. The discussion would often be rekindled at a later date only to have it end in the same stalemate. I first met Dave over a decade ago as I was becoming involved with VAST at the board level. I learned quickly that Dave was one to listen to when a controversial topic was being discussed. He managed the balance of “the good of the association”, “the good of the county” and “the good of the club” so well. This was no easy feat, as he held multiple positions within the county and the club. Dave had a full understanding of the big picture and was always one to ask the tough questions, but would also be there to offer up possible options or solutions. Dave and I would often have a conversation that would begin on one topic, cover three others, return to the original topic, just to diverge into two others. Many nights were spent in the VAST parking lot long after the monthly board meeting was adjourned talking about grooming, trails, budgets, membership, volunteers and landowners. There were also the non-snowmobile related stories about some of his projects and the guys that worked for and with him, all of whom he highly praised. Not one for the lime-light, Dave made sure that credit was given where it was deserved. Snowmobiling lost one of the good guys doing what he loved, on the trails he loved. He will surely be missed by all. As always, ride right, ride safe and ride with respect. – Jeff Fay VAST Vice President Godspeed, Dave Page. May all your trails be forever snow covered and groomed to perfection. VAST News PHOTO CONTEST Send those photos in!
