Late Winter 2018 | 27 On January 27, 2018 the Brighton Snowmobile Club (BSC) lost Dave Page in a tragic snowmobile accident. Dave was the life blood of the BSC and the most amazing, dedicated, hardworking volunteer I have or ever expect to meet. During my lifetime, I have been most fortunate to have grown up around exceptional role models with my Dad and Mom leading that list. That said, I can honestly say that there is no one person I can think of whom I have more respect for than Dave Page. The following are just some of the many functions Dave performed within the BSC for over 30 years: developed and managed the club’s grooming schedules, maintained all the grooming logs and reporting, kept track of all grooming expenses for final year end reporting, headed up the signing program, handled all construction and equipment grant applications, was the liaison with our landowners including our large lumber companies, the State of Vermont and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, was a master at handling the issues and concerns of these landowners, was a leader in the club’s annual budgeting process and was a yearly representative of the BSC at various snowmobile shows across the Northeast. In addition, Dave was extremely active in snowmobiling statewide, where he was currently serving as the Essex County VAST Director, was a current member of several VAST committees, was a past VAST Vice President, and has received numerous awards such as the Club Trailmaster of the Year, County Trail Coordinator of the Year and most recently the prestigious Carmi Duso Award for Excellence. Dave was also a courier for Vermont Aerospace, making several trips each week between Lyndonville and Connecticut and owner of D.K.P. Handyman based in Island Pond. He was highly respected by his employer, his customers and the residents of the Island Pond Community. Besides all of these things, Dave had a long history of helping his close friend Maurice Barnes and camping at the Lakeside Campground, where he made a great number of lifelong friends. Over the years Dave was a mentor to several area youth, whom he took under his wing and taught strong work ethics. He was a loving son to his elderly mother and enjoyed singing. Dave always made me happy. Every time I would see him, he had a big smile on his face and would greet me by saying, “How’s Mark today?” Other BSC members have shared this with me as well. Dave was a perfectionist. Anyone visiting our groomer/club facility always remarks on how neat, clean and organized it is. That was Dave. Everything had a place and was in its place. Dave was an amazing worker. It is hard to believe how fast he could sign a trail. It was amazing that when he was going out to sign an area, he could remember almost exactly which signs and how many were needed. One of our dedicated BSC members wrote the following about Dave which sums up how many of us perceived him, “Whenever I met Dave he was always upbeat and pleasant. He usually showed an interest in me by asking if I had been snowmobiling, what I had been doing or asked about a member of my family or a vehicle I was driving. He worked on many projects both inside and outside of my house. He was very capable and talented. We all know the great work he did for our club and that he In Memory Remembering DAVE PAGE By Mark Ellingwood
