48 | Snowmobile VERMONT Awards. The presentation was made at their home by Dick Jewett and Joe Marini. Thank you to Patty Madigan Companik for photographing the event. A photo can be found in this issue of Snowmobile Vermont. As the season comes to a close, we want to say thank you to the Cavendish and Proctorsville landowners who so generously allow us the privilege of using their land for our trails. We also want to thank our members for their support and for recommending our club to their family and friends. We had rain and warm weather for the last two weeks of February. As I write this article, I am still hopeful that Mother Nature is not yet done with us and will give us at least one more good snow storm or two in March to finish out the season. Karen Marini, Membership Coordinator  cavendishsnowfleas.com  Like us on Facebook Chester Snowmobile Club Well, the season started off great but it was not long before it began to fall apart. January had plenty of snow, our new Tucker was delivered and all was looking like we were in for a good old fashioned winter. Mother Nature, again this year, decided to through us a curve and send rain rather than snow and that, coupled with warm temps, started to impact our beautiful trails. This, unfortunately, had a huge negative impact on us, as we had three events planned for the week of February 10–18 and were only able to pull off one. We did hold our annual Valentine’s Day bonfire on Saturday, Feb. 10 and thank our hosts Lee and Robyn Whiting for again having this at their home. We estimate that about 150 folks stopped by to enjoy an evening with other snowmobile enthusiasts. We had a DJ playing some great old music, crock pots full of delicious soups, hot dogs to grill over open fires and plenty of goodies for desserts. Ladies in attendance were each given Valentine carnations and everyone had a great time. There was also a photo booth set up so all the lovebirds could get their pictures taken. As Lee and Robyn’s home is just off the power line from WR51, we had a fabulous view of Okemo and the valley. It was a warm evening which meant we were standing on more water and ice rather than snow. This caused us to have to cancel our next two events, one of which was our ever popular annual poker run. As I write this at the end of February, we are experiencing spring weather so it is unlikely that we will be able to reschedule our events. Each time we get enough snow we have been out grooming and are happy to report we have had a few more volunteers step up to assist Trailmaster Dick Jewett with grooming and maintenance on the Tucker. It may be new, but it still needs to have the tracks adjusted, oil changes and fittings greased on a regular basis. Let’s hope we get more snow before the season ends. It is way too early to be done riding! Joan Choiniere, Secretary vtvast.org/chester-snowmobile-club.html Like us on Facebook Ludlow Side Hill Cronchers Happy spring! Another season has come and gone. A big shout out to thank volunteers, landowners and businesses for making our season happen. Mother Nature started out pretty good but fizzled mid- February. It’s early March now, so maybe March or April will have a nice “snowprise”for us and we’ll get one more round of fun. On Jan. 20 we held a Safety Check Day at the Warming Hut. It was a great success. A big “Thanks” to Windsor County Deputies Thomas Battista and Tabatha Manley for all of their time. Free hot dogs and cocoa were served, 81 sleds were inspected and more than 100 turned out. Thanks for stopping by and making it the success that it was! Warm weather means it’s time to start thinking about the Golf Tournament! It will be on Friday, June 22 at Green Mountain National. Tee time is 8:30 a.m. Please note the switch to the Friday after Father’s Day. In the past, we had it the Friday before Father’s Day. Lots of people had conflicts with graduations and Father’s Day, so we are trying out a new date this year. More info will be coming soon. Keep Club News (Patty Companik photos)
