Late Winter 2018 | 43 Club News WASHINGTON COUNTY Green Mountain Roamers The Roamers Annual Raffle took place on Jan. 20 at the American Legion Post 59 in Waterbury. The dinner was provided by the Legion again this year and, as always, people were going up for seconds and thirds of the delicious buffet. As usual, only 100 tickets were sold and this year they went for $100 each, the same as last year’s reduced price. Mike Cary of Backroad Sounds was the MC for the evening as well as the DJ and a ticket holder. The grand prize of the evening was $3,000 cash with a second prize of $500 cash and a third prize of $250 cash. Snowmobile Vermont claimed the grand prize of $3,000 cash and, with a move that surprised us all, they very generously donated it back to the club. We are incredibly grateful for their continued support and involvement in the club. This year, we had a survey at the door for all ticket holders to weigh in on the choice of a cash prize and keep the ticket price the same or to go back to a grand prize of a snowmobile or four wheeler and to increase the ticket price. It was a landslide vote to keep the ticket price the same and to raffle off the $3,000 cash as a grand prize. With the raffle successfully behind us, we focused on the trails and the damage that the storm did to the trails as well as the suspension bridge. Unfortunately, the ice build up from the river caused damage to the bridge itself as well as filling the trail leading to the bridge from Route 2 with large chunks of ice. The club voted to wait until spring to repair the bridge due to safety reasons for both the equipment operator and the volunteers needed to fix it. There is a weekend planned this spring to do the necessary repairs and fix the erosion issue to both banks of the river where the approaches are located. The Green Mountain Roamers would like to thank all the landowners and volunteers out there who ensure our success as a club and help us enjoy the winter season. Kelly Ainsworth, Secretary Like us on Facebook Sno-Bees of Barre It seems at this point that our riding season is approaching the finish line. As we start to put machines away and take down signs and all the other spring jobs we have, please don’t forget to say thanks to the people that made the season possible. Our landowners are the first that come to mind as these are the people that allow us to ride across their land all winter long. We need to be respectful of this and make sure that there was no trash left behind at the end of the season. We thank the groomers that spend way too many hours in the groomer and working on the groomer so that we can have nice smooth trails.
