40 | Snowmobile VERMONT Club News the signs in this area so that we don’t jeopardize these discussions. We are hopeful that the early November cold and snow is a sign of good snowmobile weather for the 2019 season! Karen Marini, Secretary cavendishsnowfleas.com Like us on Facebook Chester Snowmobile Club Let’s hope that, this winter, Mother Nature continues with the weekly precipitation, replacing all the rain with an abundance of snow. The fall rains negatively impacted our trail work days, causing us to cancel one of our debrushing events. Although these work days are always a lot of fun because we work in groups, we have gotten the work done nonetheless. Our dedicated volunteers have gone out on their own to put up signs and clear trails. In September, we set up two food concessions stands during Chester’s Wheels in the Field event. We sold breakfast sandwiches, bratwurst with sauerkraut, burgers & hotdogs, and sausage grinders. It was a beautiful fall day and a very successful fundraiser for the club. Again this year, we held two snowmobile safety classes, one at Enfield Motor Sports and another at Hunter SkiDoo. Many folks take this required class online, but we still enjoy the personal connection made by having these in-person classes. The Snowmobile Association of Massachusetts held its annual show in November on the grounds of the Eastern States Exposition in West Springfield, Mass. The VAST booth was manned on both Saturday and Sunday with Chester Snowmobile Club members. If you did not get an early bird TMA, you can buy your regular season TMA online through the VAST website (be sure to choose Chester Snowmobile Club) or at one of our sales agents: Chester Hardware, Benny’s Power and the Stone Hearth Inn all in Chester or, for our southern members, stop into Enfield Motor Sports. You should be reading this just prior to Christmas, so make sure that snow is on your Santa wish list! Ride with your friends and family and have fun and be safe. Little Ascutney Snowmobile Club As I write this, we had our first snow that covered the ground and the first time the plows had to clear the roads. Our club has been very busy getting the trails ready for the season. We were able to build four new bridges and repair another. Lots of water bars were created and a few culverts were added. We are working on adding GPS to our secondary trails so they will appear on the VAST mapping. Soon, we will be back in the woods and fields to mow, clear, and trim to make our trails as smooth as possible. Installing signs and erecting new intersection posts will also be on the agenda. This year, we ordered new VAST-compliant road name signs so you know what public road you are crossing. Our goal is to make our trails as easy as possible to navigate. So, what’s in our future? Back by popular demand, since last year was a hit, we plan to have another ride in trail social and bonfire. We are also looking into widening some of our trails so they can all accommodate an 8-foot-wide by 20-foot-long drag. All our new bridges are 12 feet wide and considered 30-year bridges. We are also looking into other fundraising events so we can fund all the trail improvements we would like to do in the future. Please follow us on Facebook to get the latest club updates. Remember, stay on the trail and ride right! Thank you, land owners!
