Early Winter 2018 | 23 Club of the Year FUNDRAISERS & EVENTS To help underwrite our projects, we have erected four billboards at Junction 90, 82, 411 and 86. In return for the support that businesses give the club, we have 12x18- inch business signs advertising the business. We ask all snowmobilers to support the businesses. Past president Linwood Gee initiated this activity. In February, the Sno-Cruisers hold a poker run with the $400 first prize being awarded at a reception at Every Buddy’s Casual Dining. We have a lot of fun with this event since many family groups participate. Cathy and Rick Hanks give the club greatly appreciated support for this event. Paul Schartner Jr. has helped update the poker run organization. Even when snowmobiling is over, our club puts on a pancake breakfast at the Wildflower Inn for the Kingdom Trails NEMBAfest event in June. This develops a good relationship between the two groups. In December, our safety instructor, Larry Dwyer, teaches a class at Lyndon Town School with the Lyndonville House of Pizza providing lunch. The House of Pizza is another local business supporting our snowmobiling community. Over the seasons, we have had our share of ups and downs as every club has, but we have focused on our purpose to provide the best groomed and marked trails in the VAST system. One challenge occurred last season when we had early below zero temperatures, and the fuel in the groomers and storage tanks gelled! We overcame the problem and worked to catch up on our responsibility. Then a neighboring club, the Burke Drift Skippers, encountered groomer problems, and we took on the challenge to groom a portion of their trails as well as our own. We are very appreciative to be selected for the honor of Snowmobile Club of the Year. It is not just a few, but a big group of volunteers who love snowmobiling and give up their time to make snowmobiling what it is. (Rick Ringgard photo)
