28 | Snowmobile VERMONT Club News Brighton Snowmobile Club November brought us several measurable snowfalls in the Northeast Kingdom, which really got the juices flowing to get ready for the snowmobile season. Trails have been marked and construction projects are about completed. One of our larger projects was the building of a new bridge on Corridor 142. We would like to thank all those who worked tirelessly on that cold, rainy Saturday to see it to its completion. Also, Corridor 2000 had some major bulldozing work done, so make sure you check it out this winter. The view of the Lewis Pond area from the top is breathtaking. Speaking of Lewis Pond, we have some wonderful news. We have just received word that the trail closures in that area that were expected are not going to take place this year. Logging will not be happening in the Corridor 114 area and all trails will be open as usual. A new trail (Corridor 2001) which connects Island Pond to Morgan and Derby is also in the works with official signing and becoming a VAST trail for this season. We are looking forward to our dinner/ snowmobile raffle in January, which ESSEX COUNTY has sold out quickly. A big thank you goes out to our organizers, Dave and Dolores Robbins, and all the other volunteers who have worked so hard on making this our big fundraiser. Our local businesses have been very generous to our club, and we couldn’t do it without them. Now is the time to start doing that “Snow Dance” seriously. We have a new groomer and are excited to get it out on the trails with our other two big boys. Visit us at the Welcome Center in Island Pond to get your trail passes if you haven’t done so yet. See our website for our hours. Home and Hearth Country Store is also selling our TMAs again this year in downtown Island Pond. Or just stop by to say “Hello” and catch up on the local news and see our new clothing line. Connecticut Valley Sno-Riders It’s early November as I write this. I’m sure you, like me, are starting to get excited for the 2018/19 snowmobile season and are preparing/maintaining your sled so it’ll be ready for the season. We’ve been busy re-decking two bridges, signing trails, and generally prepping our tails to be able to groom a smooth white highway once it’s time and we get ample snow. It was a cold, snowy day when we re-decked two of the bridges, but the work crew got it done. We are always looking for new members who want to participate and help out. If you are interested, no amount of help is too little. You can help out with brushing, signing, administrative activities, or maybe even help us out grooming. If you have any interest, please come to a meeting or contact the club. Our annual “Cookout at the Roost” event will be held Feb. 9 (the Saturday after the Superbowl) at the Roost. Please mark your calendars for a fun day of good food and conversation. Please follow us on Facebook for announcements of upcoming events, club information, etc. Start doing your snow dances so Mother Nature will cooperate with us this winter.
