Northeast Kingdom Snow Blasters As I am writing this, we are under another winter storm warning for snows of four to eight inches and it is only 28 degrees. This is only Nov. 15 and, for once, Mother Nature is fooling with us but in a good way! I keep a daily diary that includes the weather here at the base of Averill Mountain in Norton. So far, not including this coming storm, I have 21 inches of snow, of which eight have melted. I am also hearing snow depths in the upper elevations are well over two feet currently, which is going to challenge us getting out there to sign and stake the trails. These cold temps will also help, but not as much if the snows are insulating the ground. We would love to have a two- to three-foot base to work with when our grooming team begins packing and filling. Rest assured, if this weather continues as forecast, our large group of dedicated volunteers will have your trails ready for December 16! There is still lots of work to do, signing, staking, cutting blown down trees, and getting the Bully and drag ready, and we work at it almost daily. You have all heard the news that the large logging operation has been postponed until next year; however, we still have a smaller one that will run from EX 93 on the powerline to EX 8 at the Brousseau intersection. That will be shared use, but the Averill connector, from EX 13 to Jackson Road, will be David Diminico Jr. teaches the NEK Snow Blasters’snowmobile safety course, which was held at the Sylvio Conte Refuge and was well attended. closed. Special signing will be posted, so please use caution when traveling through there. We are now four weeks out, busy as beavers, and excited for the coming year. Our daily trail and weather reports start on Dec. 14. Watch for that! Our 3rd Annual Calcutta event is set for Jan. 19 at Time Out Tavern. This is a sell-out event and fun all evening long. One ticket includes two spectacular dinners and a chance to win $2,500. When the trails open be sure to visit EX13 and see our new sign board project. A group of club volunteers built the board and soon it will be covered with business supporters, VAST news, VELCO info and Blaster events. For more info regarding the sign board email us at neksb17@ gmail.com. We welcome all By Kimberly Lampert On a snowy November 10, 2018 the Northeast Kingdom Snow Blasters held their Annual Landowner and Hunter’s Supper at Chez Pidgeon. A home- cooked ham and bean dinner was served. The evening’s 50/50 winner was Gina Vigneault and the TMA winners were the Sled Farm and Gerry Devost. This popular evening is a hometown event with so many familiar faces every year. The Blaster’s sincerely thank all landowners for allowing us to access their lands for our riding enjoyment. We would like to remind all riders to please obey all signs and stay on all trails. Without our landowners’support, there would be no trails!
