Winter 2018 | 49 Wardsboro Pathfinders I heard others complain about the sub-zero conditions we had in early January. Even my poor dog, Norma, couldn’t take more than a few minutes outside to do her business. But our trailmasters were thrilled! They know sub-zero and single-digit temps helped the 710 trail set up nicely during the early part of the season. That’s critical for a good season since the 710, with its big boulders and gullies, is a lot more rugged than it may appear on its surface. Anyone who has ridden the 710 knows it can be a challenge. Let’s hope conditions continue to improve with more snow and cold weather. Visit our website or social media for up-to-date trail updates. Find us on Facebook at wardsboropathfinders or Twitter @ VTpathfinders. The Pathfinder’s Annual Rescue Ride-In BBQ is almost here! One of the best barbecue fundraising events in southern Vermont, the Wardsboro Pathfinders’ Annual Rescue Ride-In BBQ will be held on Feb. 24. If the trail conditions are favorable, it will be held at the Stratton Rec Area on the 710 (4 miles from C7). If not, we’ll have it at the Stratton Town Hall instead. True to its reputation, the BBQ Ride-In will have great food and great fun for a great cause! Burgers, hot dogs, pulled pork, chowder, chili, meatballs, mac ‘n’ cheese, plus great desserts, including hot and cold beverages will be served. It is still only a $10 suggested donation. We’ve got fantastic raffle prizes including gas cards, winter gear, restaurant certificates, a TMA for next season and a 50/50 cash raffle! 100 percent of the proceeds benefit Wardsboro Rescue and Rescue Inc., the fine folks who come to your aid if you’re stuck out in the cold! Visit our website for a complete list of WPSC events and up-to-date trail reports. As always, think snow! Andover Mountaineer Snow Riders I just got in from grooming and man, are these trails sweet! Not sure how they’ll hold up to the predicted 50 degree temps and rain forecast, but I’m sure we’ll get them back. We had our Annual Pasta Dinner last night in below zero weather. It had a great turnout and was a lot of fun. It’s one of our many events I look forward to each year. At the dinner, I spoke briefly about one of the great things about Vermont: that our years are measured in days. The good days are like the first ride across the back forty in mid-November, wearing only your slippers and pajama bottoms. That day turns into the first ride with your buddies on a Thursday night, then the day turns into you getting out with your whole family. That day turns into you getting the last ride of the season in, because that day
