38 | Snowmobile VERMONT Club News LAMOILLE COUNTY Smugglers Notch Snowmobile Club  Winter has arrived and has treated us pretty well so far. We were able to start grooming right around Dec. 15. Unfortunately, we did suffer some pretty good wind damage on Corridor 108 between Jeffersonville and Bakersfield. Thanks to a few club volunteers, we made short work of the trail damage and cleaned everything up in a day.  For once, we don’t have any logging operations currently on our trail system. However, we do have one maple sugaring operation on Corridor 108 N just outside of Jeffersonville. Another one is on Corridor 109 in Waterville between the Waterville Mountain Road and Smithville Road. The last one is on Corridor 15E between LE 38 and LE 30 in Jeffersonville. Please use caution and slow down while traveling through these areas. As long as the snow continues, we will be out in force grooming our trails. We are all hoping for a long snow- filled winter. We continue to struggle with the lack of volunteers to help maintain our trails. Anyone that’s interesting in stepping up and helping with the many duties associated with the club should email us at smugglersnotchsnowmobileclub@ yahoo.com Jason Luneau, President Like us on Facebook Smugglers Notch Snowmobile Club volunteers help clear trees from Corridor 108N in Belvidere. Stowe Snowmobile Club The Stowe Snowmobile Club thanked Wendall and Phyllis Mansfield with mementos for their support and over 50 years of service to the snowmobile community. Wendall, with Phyllis riding shot gun, has been our club’s primary groomer operator since the club’s inception in 1969. He also is the owner of Wendall’s Small Engines which sold Rupp, Moto-Ski and Ski- Doo snowmobiles in the 1970s and 1980s. Jackets, bought from VAST, were embroidered with “Supporting Snowmobiling in Stowe for 50 years.” We’ve had a busy fall with bridge work. We redecked two of our larger bridges, a 30-foot and a 45-foot.  We Wendall and Phyllis Mansfield were recognized for 50 years of service with the Stowe Snowmobile Club and were presented with embroidered VAST jackets. tried a new technique using two-by-six boards on their edges with two-by-six spacers. We prefabbed them in one- foot sections and used two wheel carts like mini logging drays behind ATVs to drag them three miles from the nearest road. We’re very happy with the results and hope to get many years of use from our efforts. Our grooming team has been hard at work making the trails as good as they can be with the amount of snow we have. As always, use caution on the trails, as early season conditions are present. All of our trails are open due to the work of our awesome volunteers. We redecked and installed better railings on most of our bridges. I would like to thank everybody involved in this club for their continued support and patience as we try to make something out of this season. So far, we are off to a much better, and needed, start. We hope to see you out there. Nate Brien, Trailmaster & Media Director Like us on Facebook Trailmaster Nate Brien shows off the Brookfield Trail Blazers’new intersection signs.
