The Townshend Dam Diner could be your next destination ride. All the food served there is homemade. On the weekends, there is the special treat of homemade donuts! Stephanie Schryba purchased the diner 23 years ago. Rodney Rawson helps her run the place and was one of the first people we met when we arrived on our sleds. There is a hut where you can store your bulky gear and Rodney will gas up your sled for you while you are inside eating your meal. Now that’s good service! The diner is open every day, except Tuesdays, from 5 a.m.–8 p.m. The diner closes for a week in early March. If you plan to go during that time, call ahead to make sure they are open. They are located at 5929 Vermont Route 30 in West Townshend. To get there by sled, take Corridor 12 at WR 51 or WR 52 then go WR 56 to WM 65 on Corridor 121.  From WM 65 take Corridor 35 to WM 68 and straight through on Corridor 35. The Chester Snowmobile Club grooms up to approximately 2.5 miles from the diner and the West River Sno-Goers groom the rest of the way. The Sno-Goers recently worked on rerouting the secondary trail to the diner. Please follow the signs, use caution and go slow in this area. Ronney Brook Farm Bed & Breakfast, which is run by John and Dianna Wichland, is located directly across the street. Stay the night and hop on the trails first thing in the morning. If you have a destination ride that you’d like to share, please reach out to us at editor@vtvast.org.   Frank Companik chats with diner owner Stephanie Schryba.
