Winter 2018 | 39 Club News Corinth Sno-Scramblers Happy winter from the Corinth Sno-Scramblers! We are well on our way to a great winter with the snow and cold temps! In November and early December, our volunteers accomplished many tasks in addition to the annual trail maintenance. “Divide and conquer” was the theme of our fall and early winter. One of our biggest projects this past fall and early winter was the rebuilding of a bridge on 25A in the Maplewood section of our trail system. Using three beams from VAST, we were able to rebuild the bridge from the beams and up. A special thanks to our bridge-building volunteers: Paul and Adam Osgood, Jeff Slack, Bob Thody, Kim Davis, and Donna and Jim King. They got the job done quickly and efficiently without anyone falling in. Other items on our project list for the fall were a culvert repair on Corridor 5 and a trail relocation in Fairlee. Our groomer and drag also received some maintenance and updating thanks to Keith Trischman and Phil Garran. For the first couple weeks of the season, our groomers Paul Osgood and Jeff Slack were busy nonstop. They have truly been club MVPs! We may have had a small delay on getting our groomer up and running this season, but these guys were in the groomer and getting the trails up to speed. With help from club members Glenn McKinley, Terry Lewis, Karin and Bob Thody, and Mike, Jonathon and Andrew Conway, all our trails were ready to go for the new year. Early on in the season, we had riders using our 91F access trail in Bradford. Thanks to Larry Russ for the work he has done for the corridor to Bradford. Just off of 91F, we have parking in the commuter parking lot off Exit 16 on I-91, The Hungry Bear restaurant, North Woods Restaurant and a gas station. With a snowy and cold start, we are looking to be in good shape. As always, we thank our very generous landowners, volunteers and those who have donated to our grooming fund. Remember to think snow, keep up those snow dances and always ride to the right! Frigid Frost Fighters Baby it’s cold outside! As it is no revelation, Vermont, the northeast and the eastern coastline have been experiencing record low temperatures. Wind chill factors have brought the “feels like” air temperature to temperatures under 35 degrees below zero. Frostbite can occur in less than 15 minutes. Meteorologists have referred to the onset of some of this intense weather as a “bomb cyclone.” To help clarify, bombogenesis is a rapidly intensifying low pressure system. A cyclone is defined as every low pressure. The bottom line is that if you go out, please be prepared for the weather. Prepare ahead and anticipate any situation that might leave you stranded in the weather for an extended amount of time with provisions that would help you if you should get stuck or in trouble. In comparison to recent years, the start of this season has provided us with a great foundation for sledding. Our group of volunteers have prepared our trails to be ready to accept winter’s snow and provide the best conditions for snowmobiling. With the drop in temperatures, there is a solid base of snow and frozen ground to receive more of Boreas’ wrath. “Who is Boreas?” you might ask. He was the Greek god of the north wind. He is more commonly known as “Old Man Winter.” As he makes his presence known, we will continue to be vigilant in keeping our trails groomed and accessible for your enjoyment. A big thank you to Clint, Rory, Mark and Max for the their dedication and time spent grooming the trails.
