Winter 2018 | 35 Our monthly meetings have now moved to the second Saturday of each month at 8 a.m. at the Welcome Center in Island Pond. Last month was our first and we saw an increase in attendance. We hope this will continue and we invite anyone, member or not, to join us. Our club is pleased to announce that we have a new place to buy our TMAs when we are not at the Welcome Center in Island Pond (Brighton).Just up the street from our Welcome Center is a very unique place called the Hearth and Home Country Store. They sell everything from baked goods and gifts to “who knows what” which includes our trail passes. We are fortunate that our Welcome Center is staffed with some great Brighton Snowmobile Club volunteers, but the Hearth and Home has much longer hours than we can offer and are open on Sundays also. They offer the same season pass as well as the 4-Day TMA. We welcome them aboard. Our other agents in Connecticut, Land and Sea in Waterbury and Mark’s Motorsports in Enfield do a great job for us. Laquerre’s in Barre, Vermont also sells our Early Bird TMAs and we would like to thank them all as well for helping our club with their time and effort in selling our passes. Our season is off to a great start and membership is up. It was nice to see so many sleds in town so early in the season and our businesses catering to the sledders. So come on up to the real Northeast Kingdom and ride some of our club’s 100-plus miles of awesome groomed trails as well as the other clubs’ trails in the area. It promises to be one of the best years ever! Homer Selby, Club News Reporter brightonsnowmobile.org Like us on Facebook Connecticut Valley Sno-Riders It is Jan. 1 and 27 degrees below zero as I write this. It is a little chilly for a ride, but this is one of those unusual years when we had snow on opening day. This fall, we spent countless hours building bridges, repairing old ones, doing maintenance on our PB400, trail brushing, etc. Thanks to all who contributed. We’ve had enough snow to get most of our trails into excellent condition and more snow will help. Our groomers have been out in force. We have new batteries in our PB 400, have done maintenance on it and will continue to provide some of the best riding in Vermont. Our Cookout At The Roost event is coming up on Feb. 10 from 11 a.m.–3 p.m. Please visit the VAST website and look at the event listings for more details. Just a reminder that we can’t get the trails in top notch condition alone. All the trail work is done by club members who volunteer their time. If you are interested in contributing to great trails, please attend club meetings, get involved and volunteer. We have tasks for everyone: inside, outside, grooming, brushing, etc. John Orlowski, President ctvsr.com Like us on Facebook Connecticut Valley Sno-Riders Lin Mixer, Dennis Bacon, John Orlowski, Todd Stewart and Sam Gorham worked on building a new bridge this fall. Lunenburg Polar Bears Snowmobile Club, Inc. What a start to the 2017/18 season! Numerous projects were tackled by dedicated volunteers. We were rewarded in December with a freeze-up and firm base of snow in Essex county. Welcome to Polar Bear Country! It was great to see our members and friends at the Annual Christmas Party on Dec. 15. Festive decorations lit up the Town Hall meeting room. Our potluck dinner was held and followed with a traditional Yankee Swap. Be sure to check out the event photos on our Facebook page. Thanks to Lynda Silsby and her crew of helpers for organizing this wonderful event. The club’s biggest trail project of the season was the completion of a Corridor 1 reroute in East Haven. This included the construction of a 40-foot I-beam bridge over Line Brook, repair of several nearby culverts and clearing thick regrowth. The West Branch was also reopened and now offers a scenic Members and friends of the Polar Bears gathered on a snowy night for their annual Christmas party.
