I wanted them to have the childhood memories I had riding snowmobiles in the NEK. In June 2016, I joined the Northeast Kingdom Snow Blasters as the treasurer and my husband recently became the president of the Derby Drift Dusters. We are very involved in both clubs and include our children in all activities. We are keeping Florent Roy’s memory alive as our “Snowmobile Hero.” —Sonia Koehler MIKE ALLEN Mike, you are my hero! Why? You took me on my first ride and mentored me with patience. Now I share the same love and compassion for snowmobiling as you. It’s our therapy! —Mandy Allen We enjoy every ride with you! We love your compassion. We love to share our experiences and memories on SledNEK with you and with fellow riders who share the same love we do. Thank you! —Josh Allen Mike Allen is a member of the Connecticut Valley Sno-Riders and is a hero to his daughter-in-law Mandy and son Josh. Next issue... When I first met Donny, he loved snowmobiling and I would ride with him. He let me drive his sled and I was hooked! The next year he had to buy me my own sled! He always took his son, AJ, for rides on his snowmobile as well. When AJ turned 10, he bought his own sled with his allowance and a little help from us. Donny has always been very patient when it came to teaching his son and me about snowmobiling. He always stresses how important it is to be safe and why it’s important to be respectful of landowners. Donny, AJ and I started going to Poultney Valley Snowmobile Devils meetings. We were anxious to meet other people as passionate about snowmobiling as we are! AJ attends every meeting and every fundraiser with us too! We have been snowmobiling as a family for the past few years and it is always a fun activity for us to do together to get us out of the house and enjoy the beautiful scenery! We have been taking family vacations attending AMSOIL snocross races for the past few years, where we have had the pleasure of meeting some of the top Snocross racers like Ross Martin, Levi Lavalle, Tucker Hibbert, Kyle Pallin and Vermont’s own Lincoln Lemeiux. Donny is now the president of our club and I am the treasurer. I’m sure when he is old enough, AJ will hold an officer position in the club! Donny is always willing to help people out, on and off the trail. If someone has a question about snowmobiles or trails, he will go the extra mile to be sure he gets them the correct information. I think they both have two-stroke running through their veins! —Celena McManus Donny McManus and his son, AJ, pose in front of the Poultney Snow Devils’Fourth of July parade float in 2016.
