The problem has been the rain and warm-ups we have been receiving. It has been hard to freeze up the water bars and holes. When we thought we had a handle on it, along comes the busy New Year’s weekend with warm temps and a lot of traffic that created many open water holes. We were forced to close the wetlands section in Westmore because of poor conditions. We hope to receive more snow and colder weather to freeze things up again. People have called, disappointed in these conditions, but there is little that our club or any club can do about it. It’s early season riding, most are glad to have it, especially after last year’s horrible season. It does present challenges to clubs, so please be patient in these situations. Things should improve as winter progresses. We had an individual call about running into a fence in the Charleston area, wondering if we could open the fence so more so people would not run into it. There is a 20-foot wide opening, the groomer operators can easily fit 10-foot-wide grooming equipment through it. But, I guess some can’t keep a 4-foot sled between that small 20-foot opening. Go figure. Please slow down and pay attention, especially if you are not familiar with the trail and area. We continue to sell our TMAs from Bob’s Quick Stop in Irasburg and from our secretary. Call for an appointment at 802-334-6179. The Club News Ron Frazier, Gloria Rodrigue and Mary Frazier enjoy the day with a rest stop at junction OS 10 just outside of Orleans village. RUTLAND COUNTY Chittenden Dammers Well folks, at least we have had some opportunity to ride, with points north and east being the big winners so far. We have already far-surpassed last winter’s dismal misery. Things are looking favorable for more wintry weather and snow in the coming weeks. Keep those sleds gassed up and ready to ride. The Chittenden Dammers had a well-attended dinner ride at the Clear River Tavern that most rode to in cars rather than sleds. The next club event will be Sunday, Feb. 19 for a breakfast ride to the Swiss Farm. We will meet at the sand pit at about 8:30 a.m. to head over to Pittsfield. Early Bird TMA sales were good with about 250 being sold, including about 30 online sales. Regular season sales have been steady with a surge expected with first big snow fall. Here we are in January with about 14 weeks of potential riding ahead of us. At this point, anyone that has clicked any real miles has been using their trailers to get to the good stuff in Island Pond or Pittsburg, N.H. We secretary is also a VAST registration agent. 3-Day TMAs are also available only from her. We continue to offer website options for purchasing TMAs. New this year is the VAST option of purchasing directly from them. If you have been a Snowstormers member in the last couple of seasons, it should automatically enter you again in our club. If you have not been a member in the past or you are a new member, we would very much like you to choose the Orleans Snowstormers Snowmobile Club! Ride right, ride safe and enjoy the season!
