Music to my ears, or should I say eyes. We really may be getting our wish this season. December brought us lots of fun celebrating our Yankee Swap Christmas Party, snow included! We had one member brace the frigid temperatures to ride in. With many members new and old ranging from 1 to 100, we were all able to enjoy warm drinks, an assortment of goodies, and most importantly, the laughs and stories shared. Lots of work has continued from breaking out trails, to warming up the PistenBully for her first time out. Thank you members and landowners for a great start to the season! As winter seems to quickly pass, we hope everyone is able to get out with family and friends to enjoy the beautiful trails, and events that our local clubs host. Wishing all the best this season! It started out promising in December, but we haven’t received much snow since. Trails are all open but in early season conditions. Be cautious of rocks, water bars or other hazards as there isn’t a lot of snow to help build up the base yet. The club had our second annual Vintage Snowmobile Rally on Jan. 7. The turnout was even better than last year. We had 79 entries, up about 15 from last year, with some from as far away as N.H. and Conn. There were many spectators throughout the day. At the awards there were still roughly 150 people in attendance. Everyone had a great time. We would Carroll Duranleau Jr. and his wife, Sheila, are the owners of this 1968 Arctic Cat Panther with a Hirth 634 side pipe. It was originally owned by Carroll’s father, the late Carroll Duranleau Sr. like to thank everybody who helped organize, participated and came to view the awesome old sleds. We plan to do the event again next year, so mark your calendars! The winners for each class will be posted to the club’s Facebook page soon. Hopefully, the weather will cooperate and begin to deliver more snow to help shape up the trails to make the riding more like mid-season. Ride smart, to the right and be safe. As with most other clubs around the state, we can’t seem to get a break from Mother Nature. The snow totals have started out reasonably well but the wind damage never seems to end. At the time of the writing of this article, we have planned yet another work day to go remove downed trees and clear our trails in anticipation of the coming snowfall. Have faith, Mother Nature usually takes care of us in the snow department. The next event in our club area will be the Vermont Vintage Rendezvous. The date is Feb. 25 from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Bethel Athletic Field. The easiest way to attend the event this year is to drive by car. The location is just off Route 12, north of Bethel, across the street from Valley Motors Sales. Normally, you could ride in to the event by snowmobile but there is a large logging operation occurring on our 12 F feeder trail to town. Unfortunately, this section of trail is closed down for most of this riding season. As always, be careful out there on the trails. There is a lot of ice out there this season.  Tim Mills, President Like us on Facebook
