I am glad to say that winter is finally here. By the time you’re reading this, hopefully all the trails will be open and in great condition. As of now, high elevation trails have a good amount of snow cover, with minimal open water bars. Lower elevation trails have marginal snow cover but are still passable. This year we have a temporary trail to services. The club would appreciate it if riders could use it as little as possible due to the sensitivity of the trail. We would like to remind riders to have courtesy to everyone who uses the trails and to respect landowner property. Groomer operators would like to remind riders that they could be out at any time of the day and that after a trail has been groomed, it needs at least 4 hours to completely set up. If you come up on a groomer, please ride respectably to help us make sure the trails can be set up properly. We hope to see you out on the trails! Barre Town Thunder Chickens What a pleasant surprise is was to have snow in our area on Thanksgiving Day! It gives us a whole lot of hope and a positive outlook for the 2016/17 riding season. As opening day approached, things continued to be in our favor and Early Bird TMA sales were picking up. Although a nice solid 2-foot base wasn’t in the cards, we found ourselves able to exercise the rolling equipment, open gates and address hazards that existed blocking the trails. It was nice to get some pre-Christmas riding in, leaving from the house to explore the local trails that offered a mix of passable to early-season conditions. We were surprised to find some real nice conditions along the way during these little 50 to 70-mile warm-up rides as we awaited the predicted nor’easter that was on the way just before New Year’s weekend. The storm did come, but we ended up on the lower end of the predictions, only receiving just over 6 inches of new snow, while folks to our east and north got what we were hoping for. Regardless of the amounts received, it definitely helped the trails as a whole, allowing most clubs to open or improve their trail conditions. It was good to see so many riders out and about over the holidays and hear the buzz in the snowmobile community that we all missed last season. With a decent base and colder weather in January, things appear to be shaping up for a great riding season. We hope to see you on the trails and out supporting the many club events that are underway. Our trails have not officially been opened yet this season and, as a club, we are ready to get out there. Fall was spent going over the trail system and making sure everything was in order and thanks to the volunteers, this was accomplished. Currently, plans for the annual raffle are well underway thanks to the hard work of the raffle committee. There are many changes
