40 | Snowmobile VERMONT Club News Tweed Valley Travelers Fall means the push to wrap up all our summer projects. The club has been working on re-decking some bridges. Our current and last bridge in the valley has about 70 feet of decking that needs to be replaced. Members have been making rounds to check on trails for last minute problems. Periods of heavy rain and high winds have us looking for wash outs and fallen trees. Having our groomer in good shape is also on our list to complete before the snow falls and trails open. Nothing major needs to be fixed, just some summer maintenance. The club would like to remind people that if you want to help, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Ally Martin, Club News Correspondent tweedvalleytraveler.com Like us on Facebook Green Mountain Roamers With snowmobile season just around the corner, the Roamers are ready to focus on getting all our ducks in a row. With trail clearing weekends already in the works and a firm grasp on bridges that need to be maintained or replaced, the first meeting took place on Sept. 12. This is a month earlier than we usually meet, but it is necessary this year to discuss the ongoing maintenance with the suspension bridge as well as the replacement of two other bridges. the Decisions about how to keep the suspension bridge from taking any more hits and working with a local engineer have been the focus of the last few meetings. We do not want another season like last year when we had to close it due to the ice storm and it was out for the end of season riding. The club is working hard to get it fixed and to anticipate any issues that may arise in the future. Late this summer, the Roamers participated in the Vermont Antique and Classic Car Show held for the first time in Farr’s Field. The club took this over from the Stowe Snowmobile Club when it moved from Nichol’s Field in Stowe to Waterbury. We participated in picking up the trash with the club Ranger and several volunteers provided their own Rangers as well. Although it was not the most glamorous way to add to the clubs funds, it was a way to get together in the summer as a club and get to thinking about the upcoming snow season. Plans for the annual raffle held in January are well underway and will once again take place at the American Legion Post #59. The grand, second and third place prizes will be cash. Please contact us through our Facebook page if you are interested in getting on the waiting list for a ticket. Drop in to one of the Roamers monthly meetings which are held the second Thursday of every month at 7 p.m., Oct.– May. We have a great core group of volunteers currently but are always looking for new faces. Check out our Facebook page for trail clearing dates. Thank you to the landowners, and think snow! Kelly Ainsworth, Secretary Like us on Facebook SnoBees of Barre We held our first meeting of the year on Sept. 12 with a good turnout of members. We are ready for the new year with all the old faithful coming through to chair the fundraising events and our signboard. To those people, I say thank you for doing the duty for another year! It looks like we are in pretty good trail shape except that we need the trustees to get out and check their section WASHINGTON COUNTY of trail for downed trees or other problems. We are still looking for more volunteers to help the regular crew that always shows up at meetings and when we have projects to do. The number of people that are active in the club is very small compared to the number of members we have. Come to a meeting and get involved! The worst that could happen is you might meet some new people, learn something you didn’t know, and just might have some fun! Meetings are held the second Wednesday of each month from September until May. We gather at 7 p.m. at the Beehive, which is located on Sunset Road in Barre. Meetings are a great way to find out what is going on in the club, but if you can’t make a meeting and would like some information, don’t hesitate to call me or any of the club officers. Names and phone numbers are listed on our website. The calendar for trail maintenance dates is on our Facebook page and our website. Trail maintenance will include cutting back overgrowth; repairing and replacing bridges; removing fallen trees; and installing signs, flags, and ropes.
