26 | Snowmobile VERMONT By Patty Companik It all began in 1971 when Dale and Diane’s dad, Bruce Miller got started with his interest in Arctic Cat Snowmobiles. It wouldn’t be long before he purchased a motorcycle dealership and moved the family to Suffield, Connecticut. At that time, they sold Moto Ski and Kawasaki Motorcycle and Suzuki Cycles as well as Yamaha. Dale Badura started working in the business in 1978 and her sister Diane Waterman in 1980. At this point it truly became a family run business. It wasn’t too long before their parents, Bruce and Shirley, retired and the two sisters bought the business in 1995. Their brother James Miller was with the company from 1971 till 1995, and Dale’s husband Bob also worked there from 1978 till 2007. Their dad, Bruce, passed away in 2011, but his two daughters have continued his legacy by running the business. In 1986, they moved the business from Suffield to Enfield and a much better location. Bruce and Shirley designed and helped to build the building they are currently in. I visited the business and it is in a great location and very large. This was a well-thought-out plan. The business is split into three main areas: ATVs, snowmobiles and motorcycles. They represent the following manufacturers at their store: Kawasaki, Suzuki, Yamaha, Ski- Doo and Polaris. Dale cares for the sales side of the business while her sister, Diane, focuses on the parts and servicing side. Their loyal customer base is primarily from Connecticut and Massachusetts. They are seeing third and fourth generations getting involved in snowmobiling. It really has become a family sport. The most common accessories sold over the past few years are ice scratchers. When I asked them about 4-strokes, they didn’t feel their customer base was really into them. Enfield Motor Sports does New Hampshire registrations right in their store. (Unfortunately, the state of Vermont has made the process too difficult for them offer this service to their customers.) For a New Hampshire registration, the customer needs to bring in a bill of sale or proof of ownership, then Enfield Motor Sports does everything online with New Hampshire, including the ability to join a club and provide them their stickers without delay. When a customer registers their sled in New Hampshire, they also offer them the option to purchase a VAST TMA. This way, the customer can ride in both New Hampshire and Vermont.
