32 | Snowmobile VERMONT Club News CALEDONIA COUNTY Buckaroos of 302 The leaves are starting to change but it still feels like summer as Kevin and I sit down to write this newsletter. It’s been a nice summer vacation for the Buckaroos of 302 but we’re eager for some cold weather and snowflakes as we start to prepare for the upcoming snowmobile season! Gary Lamberton, Rob Lockwood, and myself attended VAST Annual Meeting in Enosburg Falls on Saturday, Sept. 15. A big thank you to all of the volunteers who hosted the meeting this year! Congratulations to Gary, who won the VAST Trailblazer award, recognizing his years of service to the Buckaroos and the snowmobiling community! The Buckaroos had their first meeting of the year on Saturday, Sept. 22. We discussed trail projects for this fall, got up to speed on club matters and elected officers for the upcoming season. We currently do not have any major trail projects scheduled this fall, as all of our bridges appear to be okay and we have no trail reroutes planned. So that leaves the Buckaroos with the yearly brush trimming on the trails. We got lucky this summer and had a logging operation clear three miles of trails from Route 302 to CA5, which will save us some time, but there’s still 57 miles to clear. The Buckaroos purchased 1,700 wooden sign stakes in Connecticut this summer to help replenish our supplies. If any club is in need of stakes, please contact Gary. A big thanks to Kevin for purchasing some chain saw helmets and chaps to have on hand for trail projects. We will have plenty to do this fall as we get ready for the season. Even though it doesn’t feel like it right now, we know winter will be here soon. Hope to see you on the trails! As always, be safe, respect the landowner’s property, and please don’t litter our beautiful trails. My wife and I put new studs on the 2016 Indy 550 for better traction and safety while riding. The other shiny blue snowmobile watched to be sure that we did it correctly. Now that we are getting toward fall, the club is contacting landowners to update permissions for the trail between the green flag stakes. Riding outside the green flags is trespassing and could get a snowmobiler a ticket. At the end of July, Matt Tetreault called me to inform the club that a truck doing farm work had collapsed a bridge on trail 52. The trailmaster wrote up an emergency project request to replace the bridge. The bridge and a riprap project will be completed by Oct. 1. Special notice: The two segments of trail 512 are dead ends. Ride from Jct 81 to Rt 5, turn around and go back. Ride from Jct 93 to Calendar Brook Rd, turn around and go back. For community relations, the Lyndon Sno-Cruisers entered floats in the Sheffield Labor Day parade and the East Burke Fall Festival parade. The members enjoy doing these fun activities. Another team of members has been servicing the groomers to have them ready for the season, doing the work in warm weather. A couple of students at NVU - Lyndon have volunteered to help this team. I just returned from the VAST Annual Meeting and went down to tell the shiny blue snowmobiles about the Snowmobile Club of the Year award to the Lyndon Sno-Cruisers. Then I mentioned the Outstanding Local Organization award presented to Northern Vermont University - Lyndon. The shiny blues congratulated the clubs on receiving the prestigious awards for the volunteer work the members do for the VAST trail system. I reminded the shiny blues it is now time for oil change, belt inspection, track inspection, and polishing to get ready for another snowmobile season. TMAs should be ready in October.
