12 | Snowmobile VERMONT 51st Annual Meeting Awards September 15 ~- The Abbey Restaurant ~- Enosburg Falls SNOWMOBILER OF THE YEAR He does not live locally, though one would think so based on all his contributions and the amount of time he spends supporting multiple clubs. This individual is generous, good-hearted, an ambassador for snowmobiling and one of the first to respond to a club need. One of his main contributions to two clubs at no cost is the use of his company’s excavation equipment, which he brings from Connecticut, and the use of his company’s equipment operators, which he hosts at his home while they work on trail projects. He sponsors, recruits others and participates in club events held by both clubs. He keeps several spare snowmobiles for family and friends to try riding. They soon become hooked and join the VAST community. Many of his own employees have now taken up the sport. This year’s 2018 Snowmobiler of the year recipient is Roger (Willie) Arnow, Jr. of the Ludlow Side Hill Cronchers and the Cavendish Green Mountain Snow Fleas. JUNIOR SNOWMOBILER OF THE YEAR When you have parents who make it a priority for their children to understand that there is work to be done before you can enjoy riding on the trails, you see our future at work. This year there are three brothers who are deserving of this award. They are at every trail cleanup event and need very little supervision. They have been volunteering for several years, know exactly what needs to be done and they get right to work doing it. In addition to helping with trail clean up, they have traditionally helped at their clubs yearly fundraiser with set up and breaking down the event. Just tell them what to do and off they go. One of the boys is interested in machinery, and the club president has invited him to join their groomers in hopes that maybe one day he’ll become a member of the grooming team. This year’s Junior Snowmobiler of the Year Award goes to Greg, Philip and Ryan Gullone of the Cavendish Green Mountain Snow Fleas. SNOWMOBILE FAMILY OF THE YEAR This family is very involved in snowmobiling by riding weekly and many hours volunteering for their clubs and VAST. They do this all with their two children who also love to snowmobile. One half of this adult duo has been snowmobiling since a young child and her grandfather was heavily involved in snowmobiling and even has a trail named after him. The other got introduced to it a little bit later by buying a Pantera to ride around the local fields and started trail riding. The adults in this family each volunteer for a different club, one is the president and the other is the treasurer. One is also an officer of VAST on the board of directors. They ride as a family often and just purchased a camp on Corridor 105 in Averill. Please help us congratulate this year’s Snowmobile Family of the Year, the Koehler family. SNOWMOBILE CLUB OF THE YEAR This club’s trail system covers over 60 miles and encompasses eight towns. The club has supported (Mike Mutascio & Beth Godin photos)
