Fall 2018 | 9 VAST News MEET YOUR NEW COUNTY DIRECTORS/VAST BOARD MEMBERS Several new county directors joined the VAST board of directors during the past year. We thank them for their dedication to Vermont snowmobiling by taking on these important volunteer positions! Here you will learn a little bit about Orange County Director Juliann Sherman, Bennington County Director Mike Viggiano and Lamoille County Director Ellis O’Hear. Ellis O’Hear I have lived most of my life in Lamoille county. I started snowmobiling at an early age. My uncle had a farm in Stowe, and I would spend a lot of time there. They had a bought a snowmobile so they would give me rides. I think I was about 8 years old. I think I was 13 or so when I got my first Ski-Doo In 1977. I started racing sno- pro until the early 1980s, then started to trail ride again with my family. I am a very active member of the Sterling Snow Riders as trailmaster and a groomer. My two sons are also active volunteers. I hope everyone has a safe and fun season! Juliann Sherman I live in East Randolph with my husband, Chuck, and I became the Orange county director in April of 2018. I have only been riding sleds for the last 10 years and enjoy it thoroughly. I have been the treasurer for the Middle Valley Polar Bears for several years and assisted with our annual fundraiser, Orange County Safety Day and TMA sales. I do trail work with Chuck, who has been the club trailmaster for the past 5 years. I was previously an administrative assistant at the county level for three years and the alternate director for one year. I have volunteered as an Everybody Wins reading mentor at Chelsea Elementary School for the past nine years and I have been a member of the Vermont Traditions Coalition for two years. I love snowmobiling when there is snow on the ground and love riding ATVs when there isn’t! I love being outdoors running, hiking, horseback riding and working in the yard. Mike Viggiano I grew up In Suburbs of New York City. My parents started us all skiing very young at Bromley which led to a family home here in Vermont. Dad bought our first snowmobile in the mid-1980s. I believe it was a John Deere Spit Fire. I’ve been a firefighter/EMT for 19 years in a small city just north of NYC. I love hiking, history and national parks. I’ve driven to all of the lower 48 states. The drive to Alaska is on my bucket list! I bought my first sled in 1994. It was a Yamaha Ovation and I’ve never looked back! Think snow! Next issue... We will meet two more new BOD members: Windham County Director Drew Fraser and Essex County Director Stewart Ahern.
