Safety - The Education Coordinator has the task of ensuring that a course of safety education was available within each county as well as the training and monitoring of volunteer safety instructors throughout the state. New DVD’s have been purchased for use during the upcoming years of snowmobile classes. At a spring class students viewed both the old DVD and the new version DVD; the new version was considered by the students as“much better”. Rick Kaminski has come on board as our safety representative and is concerned with making rescues more rapidly. Also, E911 signing at junctions and road crossings are being talked about being implemented. VAST employee, Shane Prisby is helping with this E911 process. There was much discussion about motorized snow bikes. VAST is making and distributing a poster of the Vermont laws concerning snow bikes, for retailers to post in their stores for any potential snow bike purchasers to read and consider before making their purchase. With the“brown winter”season of last year, there was very little patrolling by any of the law enforcement agencies during this past season. All are hoping for a better season next year. A new application form for law enforcement equipment grants has been developed. This application is expressly for giving the agencies a uniform method of applying for necessary equipment from the SSTP budget. The FY2017 budget is based on 19,500 registrations. This includes the new registration fees that were implemented by the state. We wish to thank all members of the Governor’s Snowmobile Council for their cooperation and their ability to work together during our meetings. All are wonderful people to work with and it is greatly appreciated. Train the Trainer by VT State Police at the VAST office 2016 GOVERNOR’S SNOWMOBILE COUNCIL CONTINUED
