The LVRT certainly has it challenges, but with help from communities the trails meanders through, from VAST leadership, VAST Club leadership and from the State of Vermont, the LVRT’s future is looking more promising than ever. Senate Transportation (in the form of the leadership of Senator Rich Westman of Lamoille County) adopted new language that was supported by House Transportation and Chris Cole (Secretary of the Agency of Transportation) that will match VAST fundraising for the LVRT up to $400,000 this year and up to $1 million dollars in 2017. Those matching funds will be used for construction and trail maintenance. This year also saw legislation passed to help better to protect our landowners. In a bill called H.308 new language was introduced and passed into our state statute that now protects landowners when someone leaves the trail system, as long as the landowner did not do something intentional to force a snowmobiler off the trail. Also this year we are continuing to: • Working to grow our volunteer base • Build our VAST.org website with more trail enhancements and club section • Market VT more and bring in new members • Attending and supporting club events • Building a new Snow Travelers’Guide • Making sure we are in the State House more • Producing our amazing magazine • Updating all policies • Setting up ways to save more in the future for brown winters • Working with other states to share ideas Think Snow for 2017 and thank you so much to all of you that volunteer!
