We all look forward to better circumstances in the future. The Finance Committee is charged to monitor budgetary items and otherwise oversee the finances of the organization. As well, we are responsible to make recommendations to the Board of Directors for improvements to the financial aspects of the organization. The committee is currently comprised of the Executive Director, the President and Vice-President, Treasurer, Lamoille County Director Carmin Lemery and Finance Manager Sheila Fenoff-Willett. The committeeexpressesitsthankstoformerBennington County Director Scott Daniels for service rendered early in the year. Several important changes were put into effect this pastyear. Firstwasthecreationandfundingofseveral reserve accounts to ensure availability of funds for business purposes (E.G.-Capital building needs, Vehicle replacement, Trails Emergency Reserve and Web Reserve). It is expected that we will be able to better manage these functions without causing “spikes” in the revenue and expense portions of the budget. This also allows us continuous tracking of unallocated cash reserves. Second was the establishment of a relationships with new financial institutions which resulted in a substantial increase in revenues received from investments without adding any risk to the organization’s funds. As well we received a very favorable arrangement for the electronic transfer of funds, the process of which was recently put into effect. Many thanks to Sheila and the VAST office staff for their ideas and attention to the execution of this important project. Last and still ongoing is managing the short and long term budgetary effects of this past poor snow year. We are working diligently with other committees and theVAST staff to ensure the adequacy of funding in the future. Thank you and we look forward to seeing you at the annual meeting.
