Becoming an officer gives one a different perspective on how this Association operates – more time spent on committees, more interaction with the membership, wanting to know more about the whys and how things are done. Working closer with the staff and being willing to assist in areas that need a little more attention. The big disappointment was not enough miles on the sled, however, there are great things on tap for the upcoming season – The inaugural issue of the Snow Travelers Guide, the 50th Anniversary of VAST and the launch of online TMA sales. A bright new season and hopefully the early La Nina forecast await a few short months away. I want to thank all of the volunteers who put in the endless hours to make the season happen – all the pre-season work needs to be done with no guarantee of being able to ride – and the post-season work follows with no regard to the number of miles ridden. I would also like to thank those members that purchase registrations and TMAs year in - year out, knowing again, there is no guarantee of snowfall. Early TMA sales make up a major portion of operating revenue for the association – from October 1st to early January, it takes nearly $850,000 to keep VAST functioning, including fall project funding, grooming start up payments and administration costs. So it’s easy to see the importance of buying a TMA – it’s a small investment in the future health of the Association.Buyingearlyisalsotheleastexpensive option to TMA your sled – a win, win – you save and VAST gets an influx of operating capital. Without our many landowners across the state, the VAST trail system would not be possible – a huge thank you to all of them – they deserve our utmost respect, as we are guests and stewards of their land – ride as if the person you see hiking, biking, skiing, or walking on the trail IS the landowner – you never know. The world is an ever changing place lately – my hope is we can keep our little part of it as natural and unchanged as possible. In closing, I have enjoyed this first year as Vice President and am looking forward to the Annual Meeting to see if I will be reelected. Thank you to all the clubs for sending delegates as it is YOUR Association. Enjoy the day, enjoy the season, ride with respect. VAST VICE PRESIDENTS REPORT Submitted by Jeff Fay
