The good news is we resurrected the Golf Tournament! It will be on Friday, June 16 at Green Mountain National. We are also hoping to have another beach party. If you are interested in these events, keep checking in to our Facebook page and our website for updates. The 2017/18 season is going to need a lot of prep work. We have six bridges to rebuild on the Okemo side, and we’ll need a bunch of volunteers for that. There’s also some other trail work that needs to be done. Again, please keep checking in on Facebook and on our website as those plans come together a bit more. Are you a local senior in high school heading to college? Maybe you qualify for our $500 scholarship. The Ludlow Side Hill Cronchers would like to give the scholarship to a student who regularly engages in community service and expresses an interest in the outdoors, environment, nature, and/or public safety and is pursuing a career that supports the sport of snowmobiling. Details are submitted to the local high school. Contact the club if you want more information. We can’t say it enough, a million thanks goes to the volunteers, landowners, individuals and businesses that support us. Enjoy your ride! Tina Berge, Public Information Officer sidehillcronchers.com Like us on Facebook Weathersfield Pathfinders Happy Spring, I guess (even though we’re still in winter) Mother Nature seems to be awfully confused these days, but she was nice enough to bless us with a few good weeks of riding. As I write this, the snow seems to have left us as fast as it fell. Frigid temps are ahead this weekend but no snow in the long-range forecast. At the moment, our trails remain closed until we get more snow. Hopefully, a big storm or two will sneak in and allow us to ride a few more weeks. Unfortunately, we were faced with a Tucker breakdown this winter. We have been very fortunate over the past few years to not have any major breakdowns, which has been very good! Special thanks to all of those who helped us rescue the Tucker from the trailside and get it back to Kevin’s shop so repairs could begin. Trailmaster Kevin Heiden did what he was told he couldn’t do. He and our other volunteers fabricated parts and within no time, we were back out grooming the trails again! Our annual poker run was Feb. 18, and we couldn’t have asked for better weather or a better turnout. Thirty-nine riders headed out on our perfectly groomed 506 Weathersfield Center loop thanks to volunteers Jordan Kimball and Sage Roys. Sandra Conant and Tom Leech manned the signup table and 50/50 tickets. Club President Jeff Strong grilled delicious burgers and dogs from Lisai’s Market. Club Treasurer Lisa Varney and Vice President Seth Kimball set up the tables, rounded up donations and set up signs to get riders to Kevin’s shop to pick up cards and good food. Jeff “old Man Gilly” Gilcris and Jeff Gilcris Jr. were at Wyman’s sugar house. Bob Blair was at the Crown Point Camping Area. Warren, Tamara, Alex and Copper Richardson were at the park n’ ride in the reservoir. As always, Trailmaster Kevin Heiden donated the use of his shop and gas grill. We are so fortunate to have such great volunteers that put on these events to bring the snowmobiling community together. I would like to thank and encourage everyone to patronize the local businesses who helped us make this event possible: Benny’s Powersports, Robbins Powersports, Route 106 Deli, Biben’s ACE Hardware, Woodbury Florist, Springfield Royal Diner, The Subway and Riverside Restaurant. Everyone needs to do those snow dances because the snowmobile season isn’t over yet! Until next time, stay right and ride safe!
