b'VAST NewsVAST EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR CINDY LOCKE AWARDED BY IASAVAST Executive Director Cindy Locke earned the IASA (International Association of Snowmobile Administrators) Professional Excellence Award s years International Snowmobile Congress event in June. NominationCindy came to VAST when there was a major transition occurring. The previous Executive Director had retired and the search for a replacement took longer than expected. Cindys path to VAST was a bit unconventional as she was not a snowmobiler, but the search committee wasnt necessarily interested in that being a prerequisite for the position. What was needed was someone who could manage an organization of volunteers in a businesslike manner and manage a budget that never really covers everything those volunteers would like. Having been in an Executive Directors position for 10 years, that thought process was spot on. Cindy jumped into the position feet first, wide open. It wasnt long after that it was evident the correct choice was made. Cindy spends a fair amount of time keeping up to date on trail-related and outdoor recreation legislation in the capitol building, often testifying on key action items.Award PlaqueCindy Locke, Executive Director of VAST, is involved with several recreation organizations allowing her to keep a finger on the pulse of the outdoor recreation system. Relying on private property for trail access, she always keeps the interests of the landowners front and center when dealing with any issues. Landowners and volunteers are the greatest assets VAST has and Cindy does an amazing job overseeing both. During the season, she is out every weekend attending club events and riding some of the 4,700 miles of trail. She has exceeded expectations in her role and has become an avid snowmobiler with a passion for the sport. Cindy gives everything her full attention, jumping in, feet first. IASAs wish is that Cindys Professional Excellence Award highlight her accomplishments and dedication. Early Winter 2024 | 7'
