Summer 2018 | 15 on the Zero Alcohol initiative being modified to include impaired riding, as more states legalize marijuana. Canada is working on a national legal marijuana bill. Dinner on Friday was supplied by the groomer manufacturers. Food and beverages were set up in the hotel parking lot. Representatives were present to meet with delegates. Attendee could visit with various businesses throughout Congress. Several groomers were on display, including a 1926 Model T with tracks and skis. Following dinner, a reception was held by the 2019 ISC hosts, the Michigan Snowmobile Association. The Iron Dogs also held their annual banquet on Friday evening. Dan Gould of N.H. was inducted as a new PUP. The Iron Dogs are a group of snowmobilers who have had significant impact on the sport of snowmobiling. Saturday, June 16 Breakfast at 7:15 a.m. was sponsored by the 2019 ISC host, the Saskatchewan Snowmobile Association. It was followed by keynote speaker Laurie Cranton of Nova Scotia, who gave his presentation on “Don’t Stop Believing.” Laurie was injured in a logging accident as a young man, losing the use of both legs. He continues to snowmobile today and operate the club groomer. He shared his incredible adventure of the 1998 snowmobile trip across Canada from Newfoundland to British Columbia, a trip of 42 straight days and 3000 miles. The Final ACSA meeting was held Friday morning. I attended the meeting as a family member, interested in seeing how the Northeast Chapter resolution was accepted. They began by not allowing audience members to speak. Only delegates seated at the table were recognized. The first item on the agenda was to be a discussion on “non-member states.” However, they added a new agenda item to discuss the reorganization of ACSA from three chapters to two regions. They feel this will more accurately align regions with type of riding and trails (private vs. public.) This new alignment will be presented in April at the DC Fly-in and voted on at the 2019 Congress. When the non-member states item came up, the chair of the committee reported no actions taken. He did not discuss the meeting that the NEC had with ACSA officers earlier in the week, nor the proposal we had worked on. It became very obvious that ACSA is not interested in becoming the voice of all U.S. snowmobilers as they claim. The NEC states had an impromptu meeting at the waterfront during lunch and have decided, with approval from our boards, to move on together without ACSA. ISC Meeting: It was a short and uneventful meeting. There will still be a Northeast Chapter of the International Snowmobile Congress. The congress concluded on Saturday evening with the awards banquet. National awards were given out by ACSA, CCSO and IASA. This year the International Snowmobile Administrators Association (IASA) gave Vermont’s own Matt Tetreault the “Administrator’s Professional Excellence Award” for 2018. Congratulations, Matt! They then ended the evening and the congress by transferring the flags to the next ISC host.
