The process has taken so much time, because paramount in the minds of those on the committee has been being very mindful of our club system and our members. Throughout this time we have discussed how clubs may be affected, how the buying process would work for our members, and how to do it in a cost effective way for VAST. We also talked with other states and provinces to see how they do it and what are the good and bad things that they may have experienced. New Brunswick, Canada has been selling online trail passes for nine years. They mentioned that a lot of their clubs felt in the beginning that offering online options would reduce the amount of club members getting involved in their club and they would lose volunteers. New Brunswick informed us that did not happen. While their volunteer rates did not grow, they also did not decrease. We had many other conversations about the process with other organizations as well. The biggest hurdle was to find a way to make the system fair for all clubs. Online TMAs are only an option, not an entire move into the future for an organization like VAST that is steeped in tradition. The best way the committee could come up with to insure that clubs would see Meet The Committee their fair share of revenue and also to make sure folks would not price shop and jump clubs, the committee decided to look and see who had the highest dues in the state and add that amount onto the online TMA. More about the process of Online TMAs and costs will be presented to the membership as a discussion point at the VAST Annual Meeting on Aug. 20. We hope to see you there.
