We are preparing for the Annual Meeting set for Aug. 20 by working on bylaw changes, creating budgets and putting together the annual report. In addition to meeting preparations, we are also busy working with our clubs regarding trail issues, needs, construction and maintenance grants. There is also the ongoing construction of the Lamoille Valley Rail Trail, completing our large federal audits, building our VAST Snowmobile Vermont magazines and our soon to debut Vermont Snow Travelers’ Guide. We are also putting together a booklet for VAST clubs on how to be compliant with state and federal rules, promoting snowmobiling in Vermont and figuring out a structure to deliver an online TMA system. Maintaining this organization is a large endeavor and we work hard for our members, but we could not do it without those that volunteer! VAST has an amazing board of directors and officers dedicated to the success of snowmobiling in Vermont. They spend hour upon hour volunteering their time here at the VAST office, in multiple committee meetings, events and volunteering locally for their clubs. And then there is you... yes, you! The very blood of this organization. There are so many volunteers out there that do anything from attending club meetings and supporting events, to working on trails, grooming, and being volunteers and officers in clubs. Thank you for your time and consideration. What I hear often is that VAST needs more volunteers at the club level. Some clubs have been relying on a very small unchanging group doing trail clean- up, sign posting, holding officer positions, planning events, etc. It’s important that if you have time and have not considered volunteering, that you contact your club and look into it. Some clubs really need the help. If you are a club looking for help and help comes your way, please be patient with those new to it. Even if you tried and failed with something before, it does not necessarily mean it would again. I have heard from just as many clubs looking for volunteers as I have from folks wanting to volunteer that either never hear back from a club or don’t feel listened to or appreciated. I know VAST has been around for nearly 50 years and some of your clubs even longer. Let’s embrace the youth and those new to our love of snowmobiling and grow our volunteers by inviting them to help. When they do, we must appreciate their efforts and enthusiasm. If you or your club are struggling with any of this, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me for ideas or help.
