40 | Snowmobile VERMONT Club News WINDHAM COUNTY slip and used galvanized roadside guardrails. Guardrails were attached with Hilti powder actuated steel into steel fasteners. As with all trail projects, various challenges were overcome, but the greatest obstacle was the deformed condition of the used guard rails. Used guard rails in the fence company’s yard appeared better than those trailside at the bridge site. Truly flat guard rails, whether used or new, are essential to frustration-free installation. Club members are pleased with their final result knowing that the combination of steel beams and galvanized decking will last many years into the future. Derry Sled Dogs Mother Nature has not been kind so far this winter to the Derry Sled Dogs. We were dancing in the streets with our early two-foot snowstorm in November. It enticed VAST to open our trails early only to be shut down by warmer weather and rain before we could hardly make tracks. It also created a mess of our trails, and we have spent many hours clearing them and trying to get them ready again to ride. Our trails were closed to all riding. There is good news now. With the recent storm, we are grooming and opening up our trails again. Some areas are great; others have thin cover, and the water bars have not frozen over, so use caution riding. We hope to have all of our trails open by the weekend of Jan. 12. We are planning on having a ride in with hot dogs, sodas and a fire later this winter but have not set a date yet. Keep your eyes on our Facebook page and the events page on the VAST website for details to come. We always hope for great conditions and a good turnout. Hope you can join us. As always, keep praying for snow, and doing your own snow dances to the winter snow gods. Valerie Doane, Secretary Like us on Facebook Jacksonville Easy Riders We would first like to wish everyone a Happy New Year. This has been an interesting few months, and the club has been challenged with wet trail conditions and a major lack of snow to get the season started. Our December start date was not possible this year as many throughout the state faced the same conditions. Trail work was a challenge as well due to weather conditions and lack of volunteers. We would like to thank all our landowners once again for the privilege of using their land. Trail maintenance once again this year required several bridges to be redecked and we have had more than the normal amount of downed trees to remove. Our groomer has been serviced and is just waiting for snow. The club is in need of someone who has experience in grooming or possibly would like to learn. You can contact us by sending an email to ezridersjacksonville@gmail. com. It would be greatly appreciated. Our club trail maintenance like many around the state is possible because a select few volunteers that show up time and time again to get done what must be done. We welcome you to join us at our monthly meeting held at the Jacksonville Community Church on Route 112 the first Friday of the month at 7 p.m. during the season. Giving just a few hours when you can will The Jacksonville E-Z Riders are in search of new groomer operators. If you have experience or would like to learn, please reach out to the club.
