28 | Snowmobile VERMONT Club News warm weather and rain to close out December, Vermont got some much- needed snow with this storm that rolled through on Jan. 9 and 10. The Buckaroos picked up 10 inches in the village of Groton and over 12 inches up in West Groton. We had a nice base before this storm, so this new snow will do wonders! Hopefully the weather cooperates and we get some more storms and no January thaw this year. Even though our trails were not rideable in December, the Buckaroos still made good use of our free time on the weekends by going out and making sure all of our trails were cut out so when we finally did get snow, our trails were ready to go! Big thanks to all of our volunteers who helped out with this! We are happy to report that the Buckaroos of 302 sold 463 Early Bird TMAs. A huge “thank you” to everyone who purchased a TMA from us this year! We very much appreciate that you choose to buy your TMAs from us and we hope to continue to keep our trail system one of the best in Vermont. The Buckaroos of 302 hosted the 42nd Annual Dick Page Ride-In on Saturday, Feb. 9 and it was a big success as usual! Thank you to everyone who came and a big thank you to our volunteers who made the event a big success! We also thank the town of Groton for letting us use the Town Garage and the Groton Volunteer Fire Department for cooking the chicken and to all of the businesses who donated door prizes. Keep checking our Facebook page and club website for snow conditions and trail updates. That’s all we have to report for now. We hope to see you all on the trails! As always, be safe, respect the landowners’ property and please don’t litter our beautiful trails. Caledonia County Snowmobile Trail Club Winter has returned in the greater St. Johnsbury area, and we are up and running as of the second week in January. Weather is fickle and could change dramatically over the next month, so we recommend you take advantage of opportunities to ride when they are available. Our club is looking at some changes for 2019. We have some rerouted sections of trail that you need to be aware of. Follow the signage and you will be okay. Go off trail on a section that is no longer open and we could face closure. It’s that simple. The officers and directors have spent a tremendous amount of time negotiating permission and it was not an easy task. We also have changes in the structure of our club with our long- time secretary moving on to greater opportunities. We owe Paige a huge “Thank You” for all she has done for us over the last several years, and we are a better organization because of her. That leaves some responsibilities for the rest of the directors, and we are actively recruiting for volunteers to take a stab at open positions. To that end, we want to change our meeting time and location to help draw some participation. Our next meeting will be at Everybuddy’s in Lyndonville on Feb. 9 at 9 a.m. We opted to try Saturday to allow folks who have weekday work schedules and people from far away the chance to see the club’s governance at a convenient time and place. The meetings will typically run about an hour, and most of it has to do with trails. If you are curious and want to see what we are about (and maybe put a face to a name), come join us. Until then, ride right and ride safe! Mike O’Hara, Vice President snowmobilecaledoniavt.com Like us on Facebook Coles Pond Sledders The opening weekend of The Cook Shack for 2019 season was Jan. 12 and 13. It was very successful, serving 186 patrons over the weekend. CPS volunteers, Peter and Jeannie Anthes, Shawn and Debbie Messier, and Gary Dubuque were hard at work serving up breakfast and lunch for the cold and hungry travelers on Saturday. On Sunday, a volunteer crew from VASA manned the cook shack to round out the great weekend. The Cook Shack offers breakfast sandwiches, coffee, hot chocolate, freshly-cooked hamburgers, a hot soup of the day, plus many more delicious items. Throughout the 2019 season, The Cook Shack will be featuring guest clubs to come in and serve up breakfast and lunch. See Facebook to see what clubs are coming up for the weekend and stop on in to support them. As always, CPS President George Peak will be there to welcome you and hand out his famous fudge. Thank you to the CPS volunteers Dave Brown, Doug Luther, Gary Dubuque, George Gattone, Lloyd Rowell, Perely Greaves, Dan Greaves, Keith & Curtis Greaves, Peter Anthes, Jeff Hale, Dave Pudvah and George Peak, who
