Players were registered, mulligans sold, raffle tickets bought and only one last piece of business needed to be completed: the 50/50 raffle. One lucky player’s number was drawn and he received $338. The shotgun start was called and they were off to test their golf skills at Green Mountain National Golf Course. The months of planning by the Mount Holly Snow Flyers with the support of the Rutland County Snowmobile Club had finally come to an end. All that was left to do now was wait until the last teams had finished and declare the winners. Four hours later with all the scorecards in the hands of the officials, we then had to decide who won. That was a problem... Two teams were tied at 59, so the score on the highest handicapped hole was going to be used as the tie breaker. However, both teams again shot the same score, so we moved on to the second hardest hole. They tied once again. On the third hardest hole, one team faltered and a winner was finally declared. Team 3A was first, team 17b was second & team 9A was third. Each winning team received a gift certificate to Green Mountain’s Pro Shop. Rounding out the team awards was team 6, who walked away with the highest score and a very special award! A dinner of pasta salad, potato salad, coleslaw, chicken, sausage with peppers and dessert was prepared by the staff of Green Mountain National Golf Course and enjoyed by all. After dinner, a raffle was held with a multitude of prizes including a new Husquvarna chainsaw and helmet, Porter Cable 18-volt tool set, gift certificates to local restaurants, pairs of ski lift tickets from Okemo and Killington, a Go Pro camera, ski tune-ups, a local wine selection, radio headphones and more. There was also a raffle for a new Husquvarna lawn tractor with a utility trailer. All the players also received a goodie bag that contained a limited edition VAST Golf Tournament t-shirt, a sleeve of balls, snacks courtesy of Deep River Snacks and an oil change generously donated by Alderman’s of Rutland. A big “Thank You” goes out to the volunteers who helped make this event a success – Dale Sutherland, Curt Marechaux, Marianne Sutherland, Carol Mattson, Mike and Claire Poulin, John Napier, Maureen Kay and Steve Howlett.
