2018/19 Snow Traveler’s Guide to Vermont | 13 Bridport Sno-Birds 6587 VT Route 125, Bridport, VT 05734 802-758-2616 There is a nice little loop in Addison county that offers everything from beautiful open farmland to amazing vistas and wide and smooth forest roads. It also offers many options to turn it into a much longer trip if you decide to. I will start this trip at Middlebury Beef Supply. It is now a Maplefields. There is parking and it is a good place to pick up gas and snacks for your ride. Head north on Corridor 7. At intersection AN 3 take Corridor 7A. It will take us up and over the mountain and connect back up with Corridor 7 in Forestdale. After some open farm fields that are common in Addison county, the trail winds up the side of Robert Frost Mountain. It is steep and twisty in places, so after a big snowfall, it is best to wait for the groomer to open the trail up first. At the top of the mountain is a great view. It is over 2500 feet in elevation. The east side winds down the mountain with a mixture of wooded trails and logging roads. At AN 13 you can head north on Corridor 30 to Lincoln Gap and back. Today we will take 7A to the long straightaways and sweeping corners of the Steam Mill Road. Please watch out for skiers and dog sleds. After crossing Route 125 near the Rikert Ski Center, the trail takes us past Goshen Dam. After a twisty wooded trail, we arrive at AN 18. Turn right on 7A F1 to the Silver Lake picnic area. If you did not go to Lincoln Gap this is about the halfway part of our loop and is a great place to stop and talk to your friends and family about how your ride is going. There is a nice outhouse here. Go back up to AN 18 and turn south on 7A. This section of trail is the Ridge Trail and after many years and lots of hours of volunteer work, it is now Foote of the Mtn. It winds through the woods to Fay’s Meadow and down the Minnie Baker Trail, all while dropping elevation. After crossing Route 53 near Fern Lake, the trail reconnects with Corridor 7 in Forestdale at RD 25. Head north on Corridor 7. Marked feeder trails show that gas and food are both available in Brandon and Leicester. Cattails Restaurant in Brandon is also a popular destination. Next is AN 1. You can turn left onto 22B and head to all of the trails to the west of Otter Creek, but we will stay north on Corridor 7. AN14 in Salisbury can take you to the Kampersville Store or Paddlers Pub, but if you stay north on Corridor 7, you will soon be back to Middlebury. This is about a 50-mile loop that you could make last all day or only a few hours. Clubs - Addison County This map was created using VAST’s interactive map route planner.
