Franklin County includes all 26 miles of the Missisquoi Valley Rail Trail. Parking is available at the Route 7 Rail Head in St. Albans and at the Franklin Park West parking area just one mile north. The all-season rail bed is also used by walkers and their pets, x-country skiers, an occasional horseback rider, as well as snowmobile. It provides quick access to fuel, food, and other services riding between St. Albans and Richford. The rail bed also runs through the villages of Sheldon, Enosburg Falls, and Berkshire providing a primary connector between many of the VAST trails. Sheldon also offers fine dining and parking right along the Rail Trail at The Abbey restaurant. At the end of the trail in Richford fine dining is available at The Crossing restaurant. The Missisquoi Valley Rail Trail also crosses the path of the Lamoille Valley Rail Trail (LVRT), at Sheldon Corners. The LVRT is open for sledding between the villages of Swanton, Highgate and East Fairfield. All of these villages mentioned have fuel and food services available. Utilizing the southern sections of the LVRT riders can connect to the eastern section of the Fletcher trail system leading to the rolling farmland around Fletcher and the village of Fletcher, which also includes a small country store with food and fuel. Fletcher trails continue south into the Lamoille river valley and connecting with trails in Essex and Lamoille counties. Membership totals of roughly 550 and volunteers from the county’s sic local clubs, Northwest Riders, Cold Hollow Barons, Covered Bridge Snowmobile Club Fletcher Rough Riders, Franklin County Snow Raiders, and Missisquoi Bearcats all together with their combined fleet of six grooming power units and drags, work year round along with our supporting private landowners to provide an exciting, safe and smooth sledding experience in Franklin County.
