We are working hard to get a resolution soon. We need some more snow, then we will be out in full force. The time of our monthly meetings has changed to 8 a.m. to allow time for more riding! It is the first Sunday of every month at the Belmont Fire Station. On Corridor 7, between State Route 103 and Shrewsbury area, there is logging operation on Salt Ash mountain. Please use extreme caution when riding in this area. Please remember to follow the signs, watch for equipment and logs. Finally, please watch out for the moose! Where Corridor 7 crosses State Route 103 there has been a moose hanging around for the last couple of weeks. Please remember, as with any wild animal, give it plenty of space and do not attempt to encounter it. Ride safe and see you on the trails! The Poultney Snow Devils enjoyed a complete turkey dinner for their year-end meeting. For over 10 years, members have also brought a non-perishable food item to donate to the local food shelf in Poultney. Shrewsbury Sno-Birds It is hard to believe that the holiday season has come and gone and it is 2017 already. We have been busy keeping up with the storms to keep the trails open, even if we don’t have a lot of snow at this time. I keep checking and Mom and Dad let me know that people are still riding out of the groomer shed parking lot. Mother Nature is not being that nice to us again this year. We have been out a couple of times this year with the Tucker. The first time was better than the last, as there was more snow. If we could have kept all the snow that we received in November to now, we would be in great shape. We have received over 2 feet of snow, but rain has taken it away. The season is early, so we are not getting nervous yet. It was surprising that we did not have a single person sign up for our safety course. We can not remember a year that this has happened before! We hope that it is not a trend that younger members are not enjoying the sport. I have said for years that you should buy your TMA early to get the discount and to ensure that the trails will stay open, whether you ride a lot this year or not. Next year, you may ride more, but if the trails are not open, you won’t be able to. It is like buying insurance to keep the trails open. I had a family stop by and purchase two TMAs at $140 plus club and county dues. They said that they will be back to get two more. If they had purchased the early bird TMA and then the Family TMAs for the other two before Dec. 15, they would have saved $192! That is a big savings, so remember to buy early! Our last club meeting was Jan. 10 at the Southside Steak House in Rutland. We discussed our club cookout that we have at the Stone House in February. Check our website for the date, weather permitting. We have been talking to people from Rutland and they are trying to do their sliding party again this year. If so, we will bring our Tucker with our packer to help make the sliding path. Dave Markowski also helped last year to break up the snow so we could pack it down. We hope to see him there again this year. A lot of kids really enjoyed the event. They were lined up to slide from the beginning to the end of the event. If you go on to our SmugMug page you can see some photos from last year. A good time was had by all! It is 10 degrees outside now and the moon is almost full. It is a beautiful winter night in Vermont. The Sno-Birds hope that more snow comes and stays, that everyone gets out and enjoys it and that everyone stays safe. Ride Safely and Ride Right!
