Kathleen DiCarlo, Activity Director www.countryridersvt.com Like us on Facebook Drift Dusters Snowmobile Club We have entered the off-season with heavy hearts as we mourn the sudden loss of Director Dave Berube and club volunteer Dana Parenteau in a tragic plane crash this spring. A special story is printed in this edition of Snowmobile Vermont on page 49 in their memory. At the last directors meeting, local snowmobiler Evan Daigle was elected by the board as interim director to fill Dave’s position. We are happy to have Evan on the board and he knows he has some big shoes to fill. Summer is here, the stakes and signs are put away and the groomer is clean and waiting for winter to come around the corner. We were able to display our groomer in the Derby Independence Day parade and many were excited to see what it looks like. We are now into the busy season of trail work. Even though we had a terrible season, Mother Nature still has an effect on our trails. Bridges still rot, rain still erodes the trails and trees still grow in the way. This season, we submitted grant applications for seven construction projects and two debrushing projects. It is going to be a short summer and we have a lot of work to do. Included in these construction projects are three bridge re-deckings, a large washout, six culvert installations and a trail reroute around Dumas Road. We will be looking for volunteers to help this fall with work on the bridges. Any requests for volunteers will go through our Facebook page and “Trail Chatter” newsletter. You can sign up for our newsletter on our website. Don’t forget about the Orleans County Snowmobile Association’s Facebook page at www.facebook. com/OrleansCountySA and follow us on Twitter @OrleansCountySA. All the clubs of Orleans County will be sharing through these accounts as well as updates from the county meetings. We also have a website now: www. orleanscountysnowmobilers.com. As you enjoy the rest of summer, be thinking about how you can help your local club prepare for the next season. If it weren’t for the dedicated members that purchase their trail passes every year, regardless of snow conditions, we wouldn’t have the funding needed to repair the trails for next season.
